What is RO?
It’s a process by which a solvent pass through a porous membrane in the direction opposite to that for natural osmosis when subjected to a hydrostatic pressure greater than the osmotic pressure.
What is TDS (Total Dissolved Solids)?
Dissolved solids” refer to any minerals, salts, metals, cations or anions dissolved in water. TDS comprise inorganic salts (principally calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, bicarbonates, chlorides, and sulphates) and some small amounts of organic matter that are dissolved in water.
HOW TO SEE TDS?
TDS might be invisible in your water but water will have a metallic or salty taste, because TDS comprises of all dissolve minerals and metals in your water.
We would only recommend RO if your water has high TDS. Water might taste bitter from a level of 500ppm(mg/l), but according to SANS (South African National Standards) the acceptable drinking limit is 1200ppm (mg/l), above that water need to be given attention. We will need a water analysis to see exactly the level of the TDS before making any recommendations.
